“Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) Issue”

Amendments to SOLAS:
Mandatory Installation of BNWAS to all ships (performance standards: IMO Resolution MSC.128(75)

Entering into force:
New Ship: Cargo Ships (=> 150GT) and all Passenger Ships from 1 July 2011 by specified implementation scheme.
Existing Ship: (150GT and upwards but less than 500GT) The first survey on or after 1 July 2014.

What is BNWAS?
– Monitoring bridge activity and awareness of the Watch Keeping Officer
– Making indication and alarm at the Interval of some minutes to alert first the Watch Keeping Officer and if he is not responding, then to alert Master or another qualified person.
